Tears, sneezes, mucus, sweat, urine & excrement are all nature’s way of detoxification. If we can find a way to have these working in an optimum manner, we should be able to free our body and our mind from the accumulation of toxins causing diseases and various forms of addiction (food, nicotine, etc).
This 8-day Yogic Detox package will cleanse your entire body through Shankhaprakshalana, through the practices of specific Asanas (Yoga poses), and by drinking a specific amount of warm salty water. In addition, there are other powerful but less invasive detoxification techniques, such as nasal irrigation (Jala Neti), and the stomach washes (Kunjal). These are some of the most effective techniques to improve health, immunity, concentration, and flexibility. Especially Shankhaprakshalana is extremely beneficial and powerful for our whole body. All the techniques we use are very helpful to purify your body at many levels mentally and spiritually.
Modern science argues that the cause of degenerating health, lethargy, loss of energy, decay, and premature aging lies in toxin build-up in the body. Toxins, themselves, are a result of our lifestyle, environment, and emotional patterns. The quality of the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink combined with our emotional pulls and pressures, cause certain hormones to secrete which have a tendency to leave behind toxins. As this is a natural process, it is believed that ideally, twice a year we should detoxify our body. At Nepal Yoga Retreat, we offer a holistic approach to support your detoxification. We will discuss the development of behavioral changes which will help to prevent the buildup of toxins through various practices and meditative techniques. Hatha Yoga preaches 6 purifying techniques “Shatkarma”; These can be performed daily, weekly or in some cases bi-annually.
Individuals who have experienced the ancient methods of detoxification Shankhaprakshalana with us at Nepal Yoga retreat feel the wonderful positive effects to their health.

Is the Hatha Method of the cleansing of the entire digestive tract through Asanas, drinking warm salty water and defecation. It leaves your entire alimental canal clean of all impurities allowing a better and more effective absorption of nutrients to the blood. It takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to do and requires 2 days of rest and relaxation afterward.
It is a method only to be attempted in an ashram or retreat under the guidance of a competent teacher such as Dr Chintamani, who has had 18 years of experience in the field and has helped many individuals through this practice with success.
The intestine is just like a conch shell. Purification of the intestine really rejuvenates the person. Because our stomach contains about 54 feet long intestine, it is never cleaned. Toxins gradually form layers in the intestine. When toxins create a layer they block the membrane of the lysosomes from performing their natural function. This leads to the buildup of toxins. Due to this, the excretion and secretion of juices do not take place properly, which results in inefficient indigestion, acid reflex and other diseases.
Kunjal is another Hatha Yoga method of purification also known as Jala Dhauti, where the entire stomach is cleansed. This is performed by drinking saltwater on an empty stomach which causes the body to regurgitate through vomiting any remnants of bile or mucus left in the stomach leaving your stomach clean and new.
Jala Neti is a nasal cleanse to remove excess mucus lodged in the nostrils. By rinsing the nostrils one by one with lukewarm salty water, the mucus is eliminated through the opposite nostril. It is noninvasive procedure that can be done in 5 minutes which can be done every day. This method leaves your sinuses clear and allows better respiration which ultimately enhances your daily yoga practice.
Fasting (optional)You are welcome to go about your day as you would do normally when fasting, just be mindful of the effects on your body, stamina, and breathing. We ask you to be more aware of the effects of the environment on your wellbeing affected by your fast. Drink plenty of water and let the sun energize you!
Fasting can be a means to cure oneself of certain discomforts or mild diseases. If the disease is created by an abnormal accumulation of toxins in the system, it stands to reason that fasting will help in their elimination from the system. The membranous linings of the stomach and intestine which act as a “sponge” to absorb food materials are now “squeezed” to throw out the waste matter from the system.
All our cleansing activities will be managed with experienced and qualified support open to your own awareness of your capabilities and intentions.
